Hi Steve. First work out how much you are prepared to spend. then you have to decide how much your willing to pay for a screen.Do you want a fixed screen on a wall or a motorized screen that rolls up into a housing .The size of the screen will depend on the length of the room. To select a projector you should try to see a demo . of a couple of them to help you chose .If you can't do that then have a look at some of their features on the net.The DLP(digital light processing)projectors are considered to be among the best at the moment.Don't worry about the brightness of them they are all pretty much the same .It is more important to have a high contrast ratio and resolution.SHARP make some very good projectors at affordable prices.Hope this has been some help for you.

for one, make sure it's HDTV compatible! Apart from that a lot depends on where you want to use it... If you're only going to use it in a relatively small room that you can darken well there's no point in buying something that works in a 2000 seat lecture hall...
You need to go to a store and see some actually working. Here's what I think you'll find...

Even the best projectors (about $40,000) suck in comparison to a good plasma or LCD tv. Also, you'll need to have a totally dark room all the time to see the image. An inexpensive projector is probably the worst choice of all possible video images, so test before you buy.
