I am trying to set up a home theatre. Is it OK to ceiling-mount my center speaker?

If you do this you should angle it toward the place where you sit to watch movies. I have heard systems with this done though, and I did not like the result. You lose the sense of realism when the person on the screen moves their lips and their voice comes from the ceiling. Ceiling-mounted center channel speakers defeat the main purpose of the center channel which is to nail down the dialog to the TV screen.

Ideally you'd want it as close FROM the screen, but if the best you can do is well above the screen, then aim the speaker to the center seating area.

good luck.

I find that Center speakers are rather heavy, if the ceiling has very heavy duty beams, yes, go ahead, otherwise set them on the floor.
Well of course you can mount your speakers anywhere you please. But the idea of the center speaker is that the sound should seem to be coming directly from the screen and hence you want the speaker to be as near the screen as possible. True center channel speakers are magnetically shielded for this purpose so that their magnetism doesn't distort the TV picture. In a movie theater, the center speakers are behind the screen itself!

On that note, the REAR speakers are supposed to be EAR LEVEL on either side of the listener for maximum surround effect, even though many people mount these on the ceiling behind the listening area.
ear level is better.

ceilings are hard surfaces - so the sound gets scattered more than if the center channel spkr is not too close to a hard surface. since the center channel gets a lot of the dialogue (vocal), the midrange will suffer more from proximity to the ceiling.

very important: try out different speaker positions before deciding. especially with smaller speakers, changing the position a bit can make a huge difference. like the difference between $30 and $300 speakers.
yup
Hi there .Yes,it should be ok as long as you angle it towards your seating position so that the sound appears to be level with your two front main left and right speakers .
